Celebrate your sandwiches

Today, April 12, is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. Though simple — all it requires is bread, cheese and butter — grilled cheese sandwiches are a quick and delicious comfort food.
The Ancient Romans were the first civilization to come up with a cooked bread and cheese sandwich, but the concept has come a long way since then. Grilled cheese sandwiches can be spiced up with a variety of ingredients, including meats, sauces, veggies, or dipped in tomato soup.
GU Iron Chef People’s Choice winner Nate Garberich shared his own unique take grilled cheese, which includes avocados and tangy sauce that you can make at home! The winning recipe can be found in a previous blog post here.
Or, if you prefer someone else to make your sandwich (and don’t they always taste better when someone else makes them for you?), try Mommy G’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese, a mobile sandwich shop that serves delicious grilled cheese sandwiches out of a trailer.
Though mobile, the business parks in the Staples parking lot on Division during the week between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 2 or 3 p.m., and also parks outside of Jack and Dan’s on the weekends.
For more info and insight into Mommy G’s, check out Tom Quinn’s review from last week’s Bulletin here.
Mommy G’s is also on Facebook, and owner and operator Jessica Rapp regularly posts updates about the shop’s current location and hours, as well as daily deals on sandwiches.
Today, in honor of the sandwich-celebrating holiday, she posted:
“It’s national grilled cheese day today according to my mom, so let’s celebrate by taking one dollar off the price of every sandwich today! Also don’t forget that it’s Thursday, so any three sandwiches is only 20 bucks!”
So, take a break from your regular Thursday routine and treat yourself to a tasty grilled cheese. Your sandwich, your way!
