For couples looking for a nice outing on the big day, Florence has a lot to offer. Pairs searching for a little quiet time alone with each other should consider taking a little stroll around some of the most romantic spots in the city.
Take a leisurely walk across the Ponte Vecchio. Guys, buy a flower for your girl just this once from one of the rose peddlers nearby. The middle of the bridge is one of the most consistently busy make-out spots in the city. While PDA is common place in the streets of Florence, Valentine’s Day gives everyone extra license to get close and cozy. Warm up after your stroll with a cup of the fancy hot chocolate at Rivoire in Piazza della Signoria.
For without a doubt the best view of the city, climb the hill to Palazzo Michelangelo. Nothing beats the Florence skyline at sunset (5:15pm sharp on Valentine’s Day!) so grab a bottle of wine and sit out to watch the show. You’ll most likely be sharing this sight with a few other couples and groups of people.
If you and your loved one are looking for a little more intimate setting, spend time roaming through the myriad of exhibits at the Uffizi galleries. Or if you’d rather skip the art, walk up to the second floor for two of the finest views of Florence. Look down on the Ponte Vecchio over the river and see if you can spot the Medici’s old secret passageway. At the end of the hallway is a small café and terrace that sits right above Piazza della Signoria, so close it almost feels that you could reach out and touch Palazzo Vecchio. It could be the most perfect, out of the way place to just sit and enjoy each other’s company.
Plenty of restaurants around Florence offer a cozy, romantic atmosphere for dinner. Even though it is a Tuesday night, consider making reservations just to be on the safe side, especially if you love birds have your hearts set on a certain restaurant. Otherwise, walk until you find an ambiance that suits you, quiet and candlelit or loud and crowded with people overflowing out into the street. Use some of these ideas to customize your own dreamy Valentine’s Day date, or do something completely different. Either way, creating a night to remember in the romantic city of Florence is nearly effortless.
