Anyone who is a supporter of the fight against lung cancer will soon have the chance to offer support when Jog for Jill: Gonzaga University Campus will be held at the Riverfront Park on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. The Gonzaga Rowing Team and Jill’s Legacy, an Advisory Board to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, are teaming up to put on this event, which begins at 11 a.m. Jill’s Legacy is named after Jill Costello, a 22-year-old college student at U.C. Berkeley. Jill was a me
mber of U.C. Berkeley’s rowing team and tragically passed away from lung cancer in June 2010, only a year after she was diagnosed.
“Many people don’t know that Lung Cancer is the biggest cancer killer but still the least funded. It kills more people than breast, colon, liver, melanoma and kidney cancers combined. And, for every $9 spent on Breast Cancer research, $1 is spent on Lung Cancer in the U.S. Much of this is due to the stigma associated with Lung Cancer that it is a smokers disease. This is not the case! In fact, 80% of newly diagnosed Lung Cancer patients either never smoked or quit smoking decades ago,” according to http://www.JillsLegacy.org.
