Pretty Patties for Valentines Day

With Valentines Day coming up, I thought this would be the perfect time to share my all time favorite recipe to make goodies for my friends. It’s also a lot of fun to make these with friends on Valentines Day, order a pizza (or get any other kind of takeout), pick a movie to watch while munching on these awesome macarons.

For the patties you will need:

3 egg whites

2 cups powdered sugar

1 cup almond flour

¼ cup sugar

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Food coloring!

For the cream in the middle you will need:

7 tablespoons of butter

2 egg yolks

¼ cup of sugar

3 1/2 tablespoons of milk

1 teaspoon of vanilla

  1. Whisk 3 egg whites until they are thick and fluffy
  2. Once egg whites are think and fluffy, mix in cream of tartar
  3. Slowly add in sugar to maintain fluffy consistency
  4. After the sugar is added, use food coloring to create the color of choice for your macarons (see image below for different colors)
  5. In a different bowl, combine almond flour and powdered sugar, then sift
  6. Take the sifted almond flour and powdered sugar and combine with your other mixture
  7. Put into a pipping back (a Ziploc with one corner cut off works as a pipping bag as well)
  8. Pipe circles onto a baking sheet
  9. Once you’ve finished pipping, tap baking sheet on counter to get rid of air bubbles
  10. Set aside for 30 minutes before putting it in the oven
  11. Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  12. After you’ve let the patties sit for half an hour, put them into the oven for 18-20 minutes

While that’s baking, you can make the cream that will go in the middle or the macaron!

Cream: icing

  1. Whisk eggs yolks
  2. Add ¼ cup of sugar and mix
  3. Once mixed, stir in the tablespoons of milk
  4. Pour mixture into a sauce pan
  5. Set stove on a low heat setting and stir mixture until you get a puddling like consistence
  6. Once you get that consistency, take micture off stove and pour into a mixing bowl
  7. In a different bowl mash up butter and add vanilla
  8. Combine the two mixtures and dye any color you desire
  9. Put cream into pipping bag

After your patties have baked, set them aside to cool for a bit. Once they have cooled down, you can use the cream that you’ve made to hold two patties together, and celebrate, because you’ve just made delicious macarons!
