What’s your ideal date?
I love going on dates and I don’t know about you, but I love dates the most when I don’t have to spend a lot of money. The following are some fun and affordable date ideas!
Watch the sunset or sunrise
There are a lot of great views of the sunset or the sunrise from various locations on the south hill or spots on campus! There’s something about watching the sun come up or go down that is incredibly relaxing and romantic. (FREE)
Similar to watching the sunset, there is something so romantic about looking up at the sky and all of its mysteriousness together. Grab a blanket and your date and go outside and look up at the stars together! Try to find a constellation or two together. (FREE)
Make a scavenger hunt
Are you bored and want to show your loved one how much they mean to you while also having a good time? Make clues and have your special someone go on a scavenger hunt to all of the places where you have shared memories! Join them on the hunt and make new memories together. (FREE)
Book store browsing
Nothing is cuter than going to a book store and discovering unique books together, am I right? You’ll have a good time, read some cool books, and you’ll learn a lot about each other! (FREE)
Take a walk
Here at Gonzaga, we are lucky enough to have direct access to the centennial trail. Enjoy some great conversation and peace while taking your date on a walk through Riverfront Park or just around campus! (FREE)
Play a board game
Sometimes, all we need is a night at home in our pajamas. Instead of the usual time spent together at home watching television and not conversing, why not play a board game and get a little competitive with one another? (FREE *board game not included)
Not only is ice skating an adorable date, but it’s also an affordable one. Even if your date isn’t the most coordinated person, helping them along is an excuse to get up close and cozy with them! Admission at Riverfront Park is $5 and skate rental is $3.50.
Take a hike
If you have access to transportation of some kind, take advantage of some of the great hiking spots in the area! It’s a great way to get off campus, enjoy some beautiful views while also enjoying each other’s company. Some notable hikes nearby include Bowl and Pitcher, Iller Creek and Palouse Falls. You might want to do some research first as some hiking sites require a small fee for parking.
Make dinner at home
Yes, I realize this would cost a little money, but it wouldn’t cost much if you spend wisely! A box of pasta and some ingredients to make sauce can easily cost under ten dollars for the both of you instead of going to a nice restaurant and spending thirty dollars. Plus, your date will appreciate that you took the time and effort to make them a meal!
Go to a matinee movie
If you must go see the latest new movie, you might as well save a few dollars and catch the matinee showing! Plus, the theater will be less crowded! The movie qualifies as a “matinee” if it shows before 5:00 PM.
Pack a picnic
Want to save money from a fancy dinner out? Grab some snacks at Safeway and take your date to lunch by the river, a table on campus, or bring a blanket and lay down on the grass.
