Most people say that the best way to get to know Spokane is to stay here for a summer. This summer I had the luxury of living and working in Spokane. As a de-stresser from work I spent my downtime finding the secret treasures of Spokane. This is a once a month segment that will let you in on both the awesomeness of Spo-summers and the treasures of Spokane.
Bet You Didn’t Know about the game you can play while riding the carousel in Riverfront Park. I’m not sure how much you’ve truly looked at the carousel, but it’s pretty remarkable. It was built in 1909 by a man named Charles I. D. Loof as gift for his daughter and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
Much like the garbage eating goat that I wrote about a few months ago, I didn’t take the time to really appreciate the carousel until Hoopfest weekend this past summer. With all of the vendors and high energy in the park, it was nice to sit near the carousel and relax to people watch with my coworker.
From what I hear, the carousel has a ring dispenser that lets the riders on the outer most edge of the carousel to grab a ring and toss it at a hole in a clown. If a rider is successful, they can turn it in to a free ride. So, as it starts to get warmer out and you are looking for things to do, consider taking a ride on the carousel,
Happy Adventuring! 🙂
